The Last Minute
Bluegrass Band
How  We Started
Forming a Band
Original Recipe Bluegrass
It's Finger Pickin' Good
We play mostly Bluegrass standards, the kind of stuff you would hear at a campground picking.  Occasionally we do some of the newer bluegrass and once in a while we'll throw in an old country tune.  We put our first demo together in February of 2009 and are now looking for a few bookings.  Please use the contact link at the left if you are interested in booking a Bluegrass band at your next event.

Thanks for visiting out site,

The Last Minute
When I finally decided to officially start a band, I had a number of good folks to call on.  I made a few calls, and within a week or so, we had our first practice.  Our members include Dave Merritt on banjo, Jean Puskas on guitar, Ron Green on guitar, Paul Kunath on mandolin and me, Britt Pridgen on bass.  Occasionally Doug Merritt plays with us on fiddle.
The Name
A couple of years ago a friend and I went to jam at a small venue in Ashe, NC.  We had a great time and met some real nice folks.  A month or so later, I was contacted by the sponsor of the venue, Robbie Herring.  He asked if I could get a group together to come out and play a set.  I knew I had friends I could count on, so I told him I'd see what I could do.  I called up Dave Merritt, (banjo player) and asked if he was interested and he said yes.  I then called Jason Jones, (mandolin) and Bobby Curtis, (guitar) and they both agreed.  So now we had a four piece lined up to play in Ashe.  I called Robbie to get our time slot; it was 7:00 pm.
We all got to the venue within about 5 minutes of each other.  By the time Jason and I got inside the building, Dave and Bobby were about half way through one song.  We  tuned up and played almost one complete song together before we were asked, "you guys ready to go on stage?"  Now I had played with each of them a time or two before, but it had been years since Dave and Bobby played together, and Jason had never play with Dave or Bobby.  So we get to the stage area and the MC asked, "So what's the name of your group so I'll know how to announce you?"  Man, I didn't have a clue.  We'd only practiced one song together so I didn't know what to say.  I finally told him, "Just call us The Last Minute."  And he did.  We played a few more times down in Ashe after that, each time with a new person or two.  It was always Dave and I, and a few others.
What We Play
We are The Last Minute.  We are a Bluegrass band based out of Leland, North Carolina.  Our members come from Brunswick, New Hanover and Pender counties.  We play surrounding areas including Wilmington, Castle Hayne, Ashe and everywhere in between.  We are available for events, private parties, or wherever bluegrass is requested.
